Frequently Asked Questions

We want you to have an excellent experience using ReportJet. To help, we have provided answers to the most frequently asked questions about this highly intuitive report builder.

If you have not found the answer to a question you have in the list above, please contact our support team with your question at Information Request. We will answer you personally or will add your question to our FAQ page.

1. What is ReportJet?
ReportJet is a flexible, extensible Java-based report builder application. It incorporates a user-friendly graphic user interface (GUI) within its Designer feature, which lets you easily design a wide variety of reports for your business needs. Its Expression Builder feature lets you create simple and complicated expressions, formulas, while both ReportJet's query wizard and query designer let you access any JDBC data source as well as custom data sources. Now you can quickly create reports that incorporate meaningful data formatted for easier understanding using its features and options.

2. How does ReportJet work?

3. How does ReportJet generate its reports?
Due to the fact that ReportJet's engine is based on the JasperReport engine (to read more about Jasper Report, click here) ReportJet supports many of the features for Jasper Reports. But our proprietary code-base has overcome many of the limitations of Jasper. ReportJet has added capabilities and features that JasperReport doesn't-and can't-because of ReportJet's more flexible architecture.

For instance, ReportJet's Eclipse platform seamlessly integrates with Java and Eclipse systems, and its plug-ins architecture make it simple to add in custom data sources and templates. ReportJet incorporates features such as our Designer (that lets you edit directly within your report), and our Query Wizard and Expressions Builder let you add your data source and define expressions for groupings, in just moments! ReportJet is constantly being updated and improved, and each new version adds more features, more options, and greater ease of use.

4. What kinds of reports I can create using ReportJet?
ReportJet lets you create a wide variety of reports to meet your business needs. We researched the needs of clients from many different business fields, asking them about the features and types of reports that they would like to be able to generate. Their "wish list" became the basis of the different report types that can be created using ReportJet. To learn more about the different report types that can be designed using this innovative, flexible report builder, and to view examples from our Reports Gallery.

Don't forget that ReportJet is being continuously improved, with even more report templates and options becoming available soon. Also, we would appreciate hearing from you, and will try to incorporate your requests for new features or suggestions for improving existing features into future versions of ReportJet. To send a request or suggestion, you can go to our inquiry page or email us at support@reportjet.com

5. Can I export reports using ReportJet?
ReportJet can export reports in several popular formats: Adobe Acrobat (.pdf), HTML Page (.html), MS Excel (.xls), XML (with imbedded binary elements) and Comma Separated Values (.csv).

6. What databases can I connect to when using ReportJet?

7. Where can I download ReportJet?

8. Can I save created reports locally?
Yes. ReportJet will let you save reports on your local drive in one of several formats, as noted above.

9. I have a Macintosh. Can I use ReportJet?
Yes. Thanks to the fact that both the Eclipse and Java platforms that are the underlying architecture for ReportJet are suitable for Macintosh as well as for Windows, ReportJet will run perfectly on a Mac computer. When working with ReportJet on a Mac, you will experience only minor differences in its GUI, based on the differences in the system user interfaces.

10. How do I create a database connection within a report?
ReportJet makes creating a database connection simpler and faster with its internal Datasource Manager.
  1. First, you will want to ensure that you have access to the database you wish to connect to, and that you have a valid JDBC driver for the database.
  2. Next, open the embedded Datasource Manager and click on the "New connection" button.
  3. A dialog box will appear, within which you will enter the connection name, its description, and type (select JDBC).
  4. In the next dialog that appears, specify the JDBC driver from a list of available registered drivers, and click the "..." button in the right corner to register the new JDBC driver.
  5. In the "JDBC Driver Management" window, click on the "Add" button in the lower left-hand corner to create the new driver registration. You will then enter the driver name into the Driver Name field, and click on the "Add"" button on the right side of the dialog box.
  6. Select the .jar file(s) with the required drivers from your file system and click on the "Find suitable JDBC drivers" button. From the "Driver class" list, select the most suitable drive class from those just registered, and check the connection string template in the field "URL template". You can find some of the connection string information within the documentation for the driver. Edit the connection string if necessary.
  7. Finally, click on the "Save" button to save the driver registration settings and click on "Done" to close the window.
  8. Now your JDBC driver is available for use within your report. Select it from the list of available drivers, enter it into the list, and enter in the connection string attributes (host name, port, database, etc.). Then, fill out the login and password fields and click on the "Finish" button.
Your data connection is now created. Click on the "Test" button to test the connection. You will see a success (confirmation) message if the connection is valid. If the connection test fails, you can read the "Datasiurce Troubleshooting" section within the Users Guide. This Guide can be downloaded at
